On the afternoon of April 24, 2017, invited by Xinguang Primary School, staff from Bor S. Luh Food Safety Research Center gave a popular science lecture about food safety to more than 200 children in Grade 1. Teacher Fu Weiyan from Bor S. Luh Food Safety Research Center, Teacher Peng Yongzheng from Pujiang Green Valley Base, and Yang Xiaofei and Meili Wunierbieke, members of Zhigeng Nongyuan Science & Technology Association participated in the activity.
Fu Weiyan gave a lecture titled “Little Food Safety Expert” to children. The contents mainly included general knowledge about food safety in life, five essentials in food safety, reasonable arrangement and intake of everyday diet, “the correct method of hand washing in seven steps” which can be easily neglected by children and etc. During the activity, the children listened to the lecture attentively and asked questions actively. Some children even presented issues on food safety which made them feel puzzled, and Fu Weiyan answered all the questions patiently. Besides, Fu Weiyan and Peng Yongzheng also prepared the picture book Journey to Earth Kitchen with food safety as the theme provided by China Children and Teenagers Foundation as well as succulent plants cultivated in Pujiang Green Valley Base as the awards to children. The school leaders and teachers all felt satisfied about the activity. They said that not only students but also teachers benefited a lot, and wish that more activities to popularize science and knowledge could be organized by Bor S. Luh Food Safety Research Center in primary schools.
Since the establishment of Zhigeng Nongyuan Science & Technology Association in our center, 13 popular science education activities about food safety on campus have been held by our center upon. We also expect to carry out similar activities in the future as always, and escort children to grow healthily.
