Leaders of Bor S. Luh Food Safety Research Center Attended 2015 National Urban Agriculture Development Seminar and Made Theme Reports

2015 National Urban Agriculture Development Seminar was co-held by Shanghai Jiaotong University and Chinese Association of Agricultural Science Societies in Chongming, Shanghai on September 17 and 18.Joseph Jen, Chairman of Bor S. Luh Food Safety Research Center Consultant Committee, and Zhou Pei, Director of Lu Boxun Food Safety Research Center, attended the seminar and made theme reports.


Chairman Ren said in the report that, in today’s China, as the urban people’s living standards continue to be improved, their food requirements are not limited to low price and high quality, but focus on food safety and nutritional value. He advocated a good agricultural practice, where food safety is always first during the processes from selection of appropriate land and good seeds, farmland irrigation and fertilizer, careful application of pesticides and antibiotics, harvest, storage, transportation to sales.


Director Zhou made a report entitled as “Urban Agriculture Development Strategy and Technology Path under Urban Agglomeration Coordination”. In the report, he analyzed the challenges for the urban modern agriculture in our country, and expounded why food safety is an indispensable part of urban agriculture, combining with the present situation and future trend of the development of urban agriculture at home and abroad. Moreover, he put forward an urban agriculture strategic thinking suitable for the coordinated development of urban agglomeration in China, combining with the background under new economic normal in our country.


This seminar was held for two consecutive days, during which the participants conducted in-depth discussion on urban agricultural development path as well as the relationship of urban modern agriculture and urban food safety; analyzed the obstacles and problems existing in current food safety in China. In conclusion, this seminar has far-reaching consequences on promoting the healthy development of urban agriculture and food safety.
