Fourth Round of Campus Food Safety Education Held with Success by the Center

On April 20th, Bor S. Luh Food Safety Research Center of Shanghai Jiaotong University (“the Center” for short hereinafter), joining hands with Intelligent Agro-Technology Society (the Society for short) of the Agro-Biology Department in Shanghai Jiaotong University, guided children in Little Harvard Haodifang Kindergarten of Minhang District of Shanghai through an interesting and vigorous lecture about food safety. Gong Qiang, Vice Party Secretary of the Agro-Biology Department, Liu Mo’nan and Fu Yanwei, lecturers from the Center, and Yu Qianqian, a student from the Society, attended the lecture. This is the fourth time the Center and the Society joining hands in popularizing daily food safety knowledge among children, nurturing their good habits and helping with their healthy growth.

Yu Qianqian, a member of the Society, presented a lively explanation of food safety in three aspects: “hygiene and hand-washing”, “food nutrition and food safety”, “where would the food go after we ate them”. The explanation, easy and simple as it was, immediately prompted children’s participation and engaged them in answering the questions. “Six steps to correct hand-washing” made the children see the importance of correct hand-washing, and they were happy to follow the demonstration of Yu Qianqian. After “food nutrition and food safety”, the children knew what junk food was and agreed to eat less or no junk food at all. All children were greatly interested in the dynamic presentation of “where would the food go after we ate them”, and they shared their own experiences with great enthusiasm. The lecture was very lively and it came to its conclusion in a song entitled “Song of Healthy Diet”.

This session of food safety popularization allows children to know more about food safety and the importance of good life habits. The session was supported by both the kindergarten and the parents of the children and gained their positive feedback, who expressed the wish that we should bring more such activities to more classes.
