On Sep. 28th, SJTU S.Luh Food Safety Research Center(LFSRC) second session of the 2rd Consultative Committee was held at Jianguo Hotel, Shanghai. Consultative Committee members and experts from domestic and abroad attended the meeting, they looked back the things that have been done and being done, and discussed the possible support for national industry and the country.

The meeting was held by Zhushan Ren, Under Secretary, US Dept of Agriculture, Chinaman of LFSRC Consultative Committee. Wei Cai, vice president of Shanghai JiaoTong Univ, Chinaman of LFSRC Administrative Committee, addressed the speech of the meeting. Consultative Committee members as Zemin Chen, present of China Agriculture Industry Chamber of Commerce, Benheng Guo, present of Shanghai Bright Diary Group Co.,Ltd, Yaowen Huang, professor of University of Georgia, Pei Zhou, director of LFSRC, etc, presented the meeting.

Vice president Cai, spoke highly of achievements the center has achieved in research and social service, he expressed that SJTU would support the center on 3rd party inspection, food safety training, etc, to make a contribution to Shanghai and the whole nation.

Present Chen gave a talk named “New Changes on Food Safety in Present China”. He addressed that since the implementation of the food safety law on 1st, June, 2009, after a series of food safety outbreak, our government has realized that the heart of food safety problem is source management and control on each link of the entire industry chain, the food safety supervision system is transforming from extensive management to comprehensive management pattern.
Jianghong Meng, a thousand person plan professor, gave a talk named “Realizing the Potential of Genomics Technologies in Detecting Foodborne Pathogen”. He believed gene sequencing for food microbe testing is a fast and high-throughput way for bacteria, especially fungus contamination, and it’s a trend for future food testing.
Pei Zhou, director of LFSRC, gave a speech named “LFSRC Work Report and Development Plan”, he summarized the work and achievements on research, education, training, 3rd party inspection, international exchange, etc, he also proposed the center’s future develop plan.

The Consultative Committee members and experts made a heated discussion on center’s food safety training, 3rd party inspection, enterprise-academic exchange, etc, they focus on the possibility, development direction and potential difficulties, feasible suggestions were made on the discussion.

Through this meeting, the center had more clear positioning and planning. In future, the center will bring director unit into full play on their advantages, to explore the mechanism of institutional innovation, to coordinate and integrate the resources related with food safety, to afford important support to construct our food safety security system.
