On May 28th, Dr. Jianghong Meng, Professor of the University of Maryland visited the Center, and gave a wonderful academic report to the students and faculties of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Dr. Jianghong Meng graduated from Sichuan Agriculture University, and then went to the United States for further study. He obtained his PhD from the University of California, Davis. He has been teaching at the University of Maryland since 1996. Dr. Meng is now a professor at the Department of Nutrition & Food Science and the Director of Joint Institute for Food Safety & Applied Nutrition of the University of California. Dr. Meng is also the Chinese Yangtze Fund Scholar, and the Guest Professor of the School of Agriculture and Biology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Dr. Meng’s research focuses on molecular identification, antimicrobial resistance, and pathogenicity of major foodborne pathogens.
When knowing that the Center was going to hold a non-porfit training program on food safety knowledge, Dr. Meng sang high praise for it. He said, it was meaningful and creative that the academia cooperated with the government and industry, to do such a non-profit project. The Joint Institute for Food Safety & Applied Nutrition, which directed by Dr. Jianghong Meng was undergoing the similar food safety training project, supported by the United States Food and Drug Administration and some other industry and organizations. Dr. Meng hoped that the food safety training project can be collaborated with Bor S. Luh Food Safety Research Center as well, to make it an international first class training program.
