Coca-Cola Food Safety Conference Was Held in Shanghai

       The Coca-Cola Food Safety Conference was held in Shanghai, China December 8-11, 2009 at the St. Regis, Shanghai Pudong. Professor Yitong Lu, Doctor Shimin Wu and Doctor Yi Sheng were invited to attend this conference.
       This event was organized by the Coca-Cola Company and Michigan State University for quality and food safety managers. The topics covered at this event included:  Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP); Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP); Food Safety Management Systems (ISO 22000:2005) and PAS 220:2008; Auditing Food Safety Management Systems; The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and the GFSI Benchmarked schemes.  Two course instructors, Dr. Leslie Bourquin (associate professor) and Dr. Deepa Thiagarajan (assistant professor) are from the Michigan State University.  Another instructor, Mr. Kevin Swoffer is the Director of KPS Resources Ltd. and the Chairman of the GFSI Technical Committee.
       Dr. Yi Sheng sang high praise for the conference.  She said, the topics covered at this event was very comprehensive, systematic and scientific.  The co-organization of Coca-Cola Company and Michigan State University was a typical successful collaboration between industry and academia.  Nowadays, food safety issue was a hot global topic.   
The Coca-Cola company also highly praised of the non-profit food safety training organized by the Bor Luh Food Safety Research Center.  They volunteered to sponsor the Center’s training in the near future.
