On Nov. 17, the ceremony of conferring Honorary Professorship to Dr. Joseph Jen (Zhushan Ren), the ex Under Secretary of the United States Department of Agriculture, was held in the Faculty of Agriculture and Biology (FAB).
Dr. Joseph Jen was sworn as the under secretary for research, education, and economics in 2001. Before that, he served as the dean of the College of Agriculture at California Polytechnic State University. After retirement in 2006, Dr. Jen accepted a position as the Advisory Committee Chairman of Bor S. Luh Food Safety Research Center, SJTU.
Xiaoming Dong, the Secretary of the Party Committee, FAB, hosted the ceremony. In view of the outstanding contributions Dr. Joseph Jen has made to the development of the FAB, the vice president, Zhongqin Lin in behalf of SJTU conferred on him the Honorary Professor. Professor Joseph Jen said, he felt very honored and proud to be honorary professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and he would continue contributing to the further development of FAB, to make it a first class agricultural institute around China.
